Ignite your preschoolers’ imagination with our Dinosaurs Incursion, an engaging and educational journey into the prehistoric world!

Children will experience hands-on play-based learning as they dress up as their favourite dinosaurs, including Tyrannosaurus Rex, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Pterodactyls, and Brachiosaurus. Through dramatic play, they’ll discover how dinosaurs moved, lived, and thrived in their natural habitats.

This interactive session introduces the lifecycle of dinosaurs, including building nests, hatching eggs, living in herds, and exploring food chains, while fostering curiosity about the prehistoric era.

Aligned with EYLF outcomes, this program is perfect for early childhood education, supporting learning through exploration and dramatic play.

Ideal for children aged 3 and older, this incursion brings play-based learning to life with a focus on science, creativity, and fun.

How does it work?

A drama educator will visit your centre, bringing 30 dinosaur costumes and children become two different dinosaurs in the one hour session.
Preschoolers will explore their prehistoric habitats as different dinosaurs and build nests and hatch eggs in their herd.
Costumes provided include T-Rex, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Brontosaurus and Pteradactyl.
A Social Story is provided so you can prepare your children for our arrival to help with any anxieties.
Additional Teacher Resources are also provided to extend the dramatic play, long after we leave.

Curriculum Suitability

The “Dinosaurs” workshop addresses the following Early Years Learning and Development Outcomes (Birth to 5 years):

Outcome 1: Identity

Children have a strong sense of identity, when they:

cooperate and work collaboratively with others to search for a new habitat to sustain life;
pretend to be dinosaurs and adopt their features and movement.

Outcome 2: Community

Children are connected with and contribute to their world, when they:

use drama to broaden their understanding of dinosaurs and their life cycle through nest building, egg-hatching, living in a herd and searching for new habitats.
Develop an understanding of the dinosaur’s dependence on their environment to provide food, water and shelter.

Outcome 3: Wellbeing

Children have a strong sense of wellbeing, when they:

share the drama experience and make new discoveries about the dinosaur’s life cycle and dependence on their environment.
use physical activity and skills to adopt dinosaur movement and characteristics eg. use their fingers to make three horns on the triceratops or eat leaves from the highest branches like the brachiosaurus.

Outcome 4: Learning

Children are confident and involved learners, when they:

use their imaginations to explore the dinosaur life cycle through nest building, egg-hatching, living in a herd and searching for new habitats;
develop their problem solving skills by working together to find a new habitat to sustain dinosaur life.

Outcome 5: Communication

Children are effective communicators, when they:

interact verbally (share ideas as to how the dinosaurs will continue to live after they wake up to find their habitat devoid of food and water) and non-verbally (by pretending to be dinosaurs) to demonstrate an understanding of the dinosaur life cycle.

The children loved romping, stomping and roaring their way around the learning environment, as they bathed in water falls and rolled in mud, all the while learning about dinosaur habitats and naming all the dinosaurs names. It was a wonderful play narrative, which continued on throughout the room afterwards.
